Charity Shoot and its History

The idea of a charity shoot being held in Llansawel started before the formation of the club.  In 2002, a local charity namely “Marlais Trust” was looking for ways to raise funds.  It was suggested that we could perhaps run a clay pigeon shoot for this purpose.  In a nutshell this was arranged and something like £2,000 was raised.

It was because of the success of this charity shoot, that Clwb Saethu Clai Llansawel was formed.  Written into the constitution of the club is that the July shoot each year will be a charity shoot.

Since the formation of the club, over £7,594 has been raised for the following worthy causes.  Cylch Meithrin Llansawel,  Talley Tigers Youth Club,  Llansawel Eisteddfod and Youth Club,  Llandovery Cottage Hospital and, last year Wales Air Ambulance.

“The club’s charity shoot for 2008 was held on Saturday the 5th. July at Beili Ficer.  Despite some heavy showers, the support was very good.  There were 87 entries to the main shoot, and 61 entries to the pool shoot.  The winner of the main shoot was Owen Lewis with a score of 37 x 40.  Second was Matthew Parker with 31 x 40 and third was Steve Evans with 29 x 40.  Owen Lewis also took the pool shoot prize of £25 with a score of 9 x 10.

The fairly testing layout of four stands was shot between 11am and 4pm.  During this time the weather provided a variety between sun, strong breezes and heavy rain.  Despite this, the 87 entries, the pool shoot, raffle, refreshments and donations realised something over £1,600 which is to be handed over to Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice in Wales.

The club would like to thank all those that attended the shoot.  Those that supported the cause by way of donations, all the committee members that attended the shooting ground the evening before and on the day, for their very hard work in setting up, taking down and running the event.”
