Charity Shoot and its History

The idea of a charity shoot being held in Llansawel started before the formation of the club.  In 2002, a local charity namely “Marlais Trust” was looking for ways to raise funds.  It was suggested that we could perhaps run a clay pigeon shoot for this purpose.  In a nutshell this was arranged and something like £2,000 was raised.

It was because of the success of this charity shoot, that Clwb Saethu Clai Llansawel was formed.  Written into the constitution of the club is that the July shoot each year will be a charity shoot.

Since the formation of the club, over £7,594 has been raised for the following worthy causes.  Cylch Meithrin Llansawel,  Talley Tigers Youth Club,  Llansawel Eisteddfod and Youth Club,  Llandovery Cottage Hospital and, last year Wales Air Ambulance.

The club's annual 40 bird charity shoot took place on Saturday the 4th July.  Despite rain at first, the weather cleared to allow the 72 entries to shoot a testing layout comprising fur and feather, high crossers, teal and a curling pair.  The winner turning in a very good 37x40 was Bleddyn Lewis, who takes away the annual challenge shield and majolica goblet.  In second place after a shoot off was Aled Jones with 35x40 and 6x10 and in third place with a score of 35x40 and 5x10 was Chris Dare, both of whom take home a majolica goblet.

The 2009 charity shoot has proved to be the club's best shoot ever, raising in excess of £2,700

The club would like to thank all committee members and others who assisted in the setting up and taking down of the layout, the day previously and on the day itself.

We would also like to thank all those who turned up on the day, both shooters and supporters.  A big 'thank you' to the many non shooters who gave their support with generous donations and to the Thomas family for allowing the club to shoot on their land.
